COMEDY CELLAR CHAMPIONSHIPS

A GREAT NIGHT OUT OF ENTERTAINMENT, LAUGHS AND TEAM BUILDING…

Comedy Cellar is New Zealand's largest amateur team wine tasting competition and an evening of laughs, learning and entertainment. It's the perfect combination of humour, wine, and food rolled into a great evening and opportunity to team-build with colleagues, clients, and friends. Apart from a great laugh and night out, you might also learn a thing or two about wine from New Zealand's foremost expert. Comedy Cellar is a great way to celebrate the end-of-year while competing against other local businesses, colleagues and friends for the local title of Comedy Cellar Champions!

YOUR EXPERT AND TALENTED HOSTS FOR THE EVENING

Comedy Cellar is co-hosted by New Zealand's foremost wine expert, Bob Campbell, and top stand-up entertainer and talent, Michele A'Court. The evening and competition is based on the popular team-based wine tasting game, 'wine options.' Together our hosts deliver the perfect combination of humour, entertainment, and knowledge to give you a great night out while competing against other local teams (tables). LOCAL AND REGIONAL COMPETITION

Comedy Cellar allows colleagues, customers, friends, and family to form a team for the evening. Each team can be made up of 8-12 people but ideally 10 (to fit better on the table)!

Not only do you compete against other local tables (teams) on the night to find a local champion team in your town, but we take the average score on the night across all of the teams so you can compare how your town performs against other parts of New Zealand. So while you're competing against each other on the night, you are also one big team competing against other towns in New Zealand! You may not win on the night but you may just end up a New Zealand champion (well, kind of…) at wine tasting thanks to your towns collective knowledge! You can track all of the results and see the leader board here.

How the Comedy Cellar Competition Works

"Wine Options"

  • Four wines are blind taste tested by teams (a team/table is ideally 10 people, but we can accommodate 8-12 people per table).
  • Each wine is served separately to your table, and a series of questions are asked about it.
  • Points are weighted, and time is limited.
  • Tables (teams) discuss, debate and agree on their final answer for each wine and series of questions.
  • One team answer per question is then submitted to the judge (Bob).
  • Scores are calculated over the evening to end up with an overall winning team.
  • Your town's average score is then calculated and compared to other towns around New Zealand
